FYI:

A quality plan describes project specific policies that are in addition to the Company’s quality management system.

What does a Client mean when they ask for a quality plan? Here’s a couple of definitions to consider:

Definition #1: Quality Plan (meaning standalone plan)

Brief overview of quality policies and objectives with a list of key personnel and details for controlling requirements of the construction project. Tailor the plan for each project by recording the contract number AND project name on the cover page then describe work details – repeat for every project.

Definition #2: Quality Plan (meaning Management Program/System)

The quality handbook is more than a plan because it summarizes all management policies and supporting procedures. In a quality management system, a quality plan is a component that summarizes work details and supporting activities, similar to a Statement of Work. The quality manual/handbook in a quality management system does not need to be tailored for each Client because it applies to all projects.

If you only need a quality plan according to Definition #1, consider the documents in the above CQC Plan Starter kit or this CQC Plan Complete kit.

If you need a quality management system according to definition #2, or if you need more than a quality plan, consider the following kits that are offered in our catalog website qualitycontrolplan.com:

Special Inspection Agency based upon ISO 17020

Generic  Management System based upon ISO 10005

General Contractors and other Construction businesses can use the CQC Starter kit or the CQC complete kit as a project plan where each project is issued a dedicated copy that is tailored to describe contract-specific work details. The plan is useful for businesses that don’t want or need a quality system.

Typical Client question:

Does your Company have a quality plan?

If you’re fortunate, your Client means the kind of plan described in these CQC Plans.

Typical Manager questions and thoughts after a Client requests a quality plan:

  • They’re asking for a quality plan? Does that mean quality system or quality manual or quality plan?
  • We’ve never needed more than our boilerplate proposal sheet to bid on a job!
  • How do we do this without adding more burden to our business operation?

Solution:

The CQC Starter or Complete kits are low cost plans that can be used as a template for every project. The CQC plan helps to delay implementation of a burdensome quality management system. The plan is a multiple application document that applies to traditional business operations where a certified quality system is not mandatory.
